We played at the gala of the Samui regattta and at the beautiful X2 resort. Check out this place!!!It was a nice experience to work with musicians from all over the world, who found their home in Thailand.My music fits perfectly with the climate and the audience loved it!!! When in 2002 I decided to record his song 'Corsário' in Rio de Janeiro he agreed to participate, but unfortunately he was travelling at the time.My latest album 'Bem Brasileiro' was recorded in 2007, again in Rio de Janeiro.This time it happened.We sat together in the studio and sang Memoria da pele (Memory of skin). It's a an incredible song. The lyrics say: I try to believe I have forgotten about you, but my skin still remembers.... Wow! and then that melody. Just like all the melodies João composes: incomparable to anything else, absolutely unique.I had asked João to accompany the song without the band, just the two of us. The condition however was that I had to sing in his key. Some frases were pretty low for me, and so we decided to split some parts and sing second voices in other phrases. I love the result, it's one of my favorites on the album.But performing the song live was a dream I never dared to dream. And a dream it was, much too short. But an unforgettable, emotional experience.When I sat next to João he asked me to tell in my own language how we recorded the song and how it was in the studio. He loved listening to this strange language, Dutch.I hope the photos on this site will give you an impression of that moment.I loved every second of it.Obrigada João!!! you are absolutely a unique artist and person. Van west, naar noord, naar zuid, het hele land door gereisd. En alle verschillen gezien in dat immens grote land, waar je net zo makkelijk het vliegtuig neemt als hier de trein.Overal voelde ik me meer dan welkom en gewaardeerd, overal reageerde het publiek even enthousiast. Of het nou in Rio, Sobral of Porto Alegre was.Maar een van de hoogtepunten was zondermeer het stadje Sobral in het Noord- Oosten, 5 uur rijden van Fortaleza. Een beeldschoon oud theatertje (zie foto onder). Dat 's avonds bomvol zat.'s Middags zagen we al zo'n klein vrachtautootje rondrijden met speakers erop. Daaruit klonk mijn cd en werd het concert aangekondigd!!Het publiek zong graag de bekende Braziliaanse stukken uit volle borst mee. Maar ook de Nederlandse stukken die ik zong vielen in goede aarde. Wel eens honderden Brazilianen in het Nederlands 'ik hou van jou...' horen zeggen? Dit als inleiding to 'Liefde van later'.En ze gingen uit hun dak toen ik in 'De reiziger' een stukje 'Asa Branca ' zong. Hún muziek tenslotte.In het openluchttheater in Fortaleza reageerde het publiek al net zo, terwijl ondertussen de vleermuizen om mijn hoofd zwermden.São Paulo met Nosso Trio was ook te gek, wat een band is het toch. Gelukkig spelen we binnenkort weer samen, maar dan in Bloemendaal. 50 jaar Bossa Nova vieren. Je hoort altijd van die verhalen: als je een keer daarin wordt gedraaid dat zit je goed.....enz. enz.Nu is het lied waarschijnlijk vele malen gebruikt in de 174 afleveringen tellende telenovela, maar het was leuk geweest als ik het had geweten in het jaar dat het werd uitgezonden, 2004. Nu is er niets meer van terug te vinden op het net.Op de repertoirelijst (Trilha sonora) prijkt mijn naam tussen mijn helden. Helaas staat de titel verkeerd genoemd: Coração Saudade. Maar verder is het alleen maar leuk.Hierbij 2 beelden van de site van zender SBT. ]]> Tue, 24 Jul 2007 21:43:11 +0200 http://www.joseekoning.com/C1605969948/E20070724214311/index.html http://www.joseekoning.com/C1989367559/E20070723110817/index.html In de week voorafgaand aan het North Sea Jazz Festival repeteerde de Big Band van het Rotterdams Conservatorium dagelijks aan de stevige arrangementen van gast arrangeur/gitarist Nelson Faria uit Rio de Janeiro.Drummer Billy Hart (USA), bassist Carlos Werneck (BR.) en percussionist Cyro Monteiro (BR.) versterkten het orkest in een paar stukken zowel tijdens de repetities als op het concert. Ilja Reijngoud dirigeert het orkest echt geweldig.We traden op de eerste dag om 17 uur op, dus als eerste! Het plein voor ons podium stond bomvol. Twee van mijn 2e fase zangstudenten, Gabriella Kozyra (Polen) en Florinda Piticchio (Italie) zongen ieder één stuk. Ik was supertrots op ze. En zelf vond ik het helemaal het einde om 2 stukken met het orkest te mogen zingen: Inutil Paisagem, klassieke slow bossa van Jobim. en daarna Vera Cruz van Milton Nascimento, maar dan in een te gek arrangement van Nelson, dat heel mooi naar een climax toewerkte. Wow, verslavend om met zulke musici te werken. Again, another nice adventure.For this new album I decided to work with producer Rodolfo Stroeter. A great choice! This time I wanted a very Brazilian album, the most Brazilian so far, happy and rhythmical.I think we succeeded very well. Great musicians and arrangers came to help us. I'm very proud that Joao Bosco came to record a duet with me, just the two of us, guitar and voices. A very emotional experience.The album is full of surprises but I guess you'll have to wait a little. Anyway, it was a party, everyday, it just felt like holidaysThree of the musicians playing on the album will come to Holland in October 2007 for touring and promoting the album. Het nieuws kwam onverwacht en hard aan. Sivuca was een fenomeen op accordeon. Hij kwam uit Noord Oost Brazilie en de xote, forro en baião zijn hem met de paplepel ingegoten. Ik had hem al diverse malen live gezien in Rio. Maar ik heb onvergetelijke en emotionele momenten beleefd toen hij in 2001 naar de studio kwam om op mijn cd 'Recorded in Rio' mee te spelen.Hij heeft Ramses Shaffy's ''t is Stil in Amsterdam' een hele speciale kleur gegeven. Spannend, want veel nieuw repertoire en heftige arrangementen. Maar mooi!!!!!!!!als die 15 man koper achter me tegelijk staan te blazen (een echte geluidsmuur, sorry dames op de 1e rij!) Te gekke ritmesectie, waar ook mijn maatje percussionist Bart Fermie aan was toegevoegd.Voor de pauze Gershwin: Slap that Bass, My man's gone now - uit Porgy and Bess (lastig om het droog te houden) en Fascinating rhythm. Na de pauze bossa's en samba. Ivan Lins in arrangementen van Maria Schneider, en van mijn 'Recorded in Rio' speciaal gearrangeerd 'Coração do Brasil' en als toegift 'Quando você não vem' waarbij het orkest meerstemmig zong. En gisteravond alweer de 2e en laatste show in de Philharmonie in Haarlem. Heftige en ontroerende momenten, maar absoluut een feest en een grote eer om met zo'n wereldberoemd orkest te mogen zingen. Hopelijk krijgen we er wat van te horen. En.................ik ga natuurlijk een duet met hem zingen. Welk lied?
